i got my car started last week and after about 5min of it idleing my manifold was glowing from it being so hot, we thought my turbo was bad but i took it off and it is perfect, what else wolud cause this. My timing is not pefect would the timing being off cause too much heat by the manifold from being too rich or too lean??? My turbo manifold is a aftermarket one also its not hte stock one. thanks in advance guys.

@ idle it should not glow, your EGT are to High either do to timing, or lean condition @ idle.

yeah i know its not supposed to glow at idle, i was just wondering if its from a timing issue cause my turbo is fine so i know the turbo is not keeping the exhaust gases there. Thanks though ill get it timed and see if that helps.

if the turbo is ok, it is most likely running CRAZY LEAN. get teh timing right and i think it shoudl not do that any more

i would suspect the timing first. if the timing is severely retarded, the combustion process happens partially in the manifold, causing the manifold to glow. fix it before you drive it, or you might blow the turbo. if it is the timing, the car will not have any power.

holy **** guys.....i have the SAME EXACT problem!....heh....I also believe its retarded timing....its suppodly set to 12 deg above TDC but we never pulled the TPS plug when doin the timing so im sure its further off than that....and I also have not as much power as i should (I had a KAT with 220-230rwhp (z31 turbo) and i barely inched on him....i should have around 320rwhp on stock boost).....I cant wait to reset the timing....I wanna HAUL ***

welll i fixed the timing a few times......i even pulled the valve cover to be sure....this is what i got......and as of now its still glowing red at idle......i need help bad here

So as far as i can see that is the correct timing.....so y does it run so damn hot????!!!! Glowing red manifold at idle and it'll idle at 500C + and my probe is behind the turbo on the DP not even on the manifold itself.......the car also doesnt make the kind of power it should.....thats y i suspected timing....on time i cranked up the timing and set it to 15BTDC but the idle was at like 1800rpms come to find out it wqas more like 40BTDC and the thing ran AWESOME....,..fast as hell and the EGT temps were way down.....but i dont wanna blow up my motor running with too much timing.....what should i do???? ANY CLUES????
