Lets discuss the cost, pros and cons, and ease of use of all the CA18DET management options.

Let us assume turbo, and injectors are upgraded. Larger MAF or MAP sensors are implemented as needed. In any of these scenarios, lets assume decent tuning has been done.

The options i know of so far:Standalone-i like the SDS systems

JWT Retunes, seems to be a solid choice but its expensive!

Burning your own chips, or buying someones burned chips and installing them. Much cheaper than just one JWT Tune.

With a non-standalone, we are limited to the CA18DET's ECU, but is this a bad thing? How do your cars idle, run, and use fuel with just retuning this ECU? What are the drawbacks?

Another option, using an SR20 or KA24 ECU, reburning the rom. i dont know much about this yet, but i think its possible.

Does going standalone give you a significantly better running engine? I know it will allow for endless upgrading and part changing, but once its all installed and tuned, how much better can your car run vs an ECU retune?

I for sure want a CA18DET in my 240, but i need to learn a TON more about fuel/engine management. Post info, comments, flames to me, links to good related information, anything to help me (and anyone else reading this thread) learn some more about CA18DET's and managing them.

I want to have about 300whp, but most importantly, i want my CA18DET to run like a swiss watch and rev into the 8000s, driven daily, driven hard, and thoroughly enjoyed.

*edit* Hacked or Double MAF. 2 MAFs, one is connected, double the injector size. This method seems risky and ghetto to me. i dont think it would be a real solution in the upper teens pounds of boost.

if you're needing larger injectors, look into a hacked MAF, in fact, go over to the KA-T forum right now, the hacked MAF set-up made more power, all across the power badn, when compared to the JWT KA-T ECU, the JWT was also dipping to 12:1 A/F ratio, the hacked MAF stayed perfect al the way through,
