Pretty awesome, looks like he's been prepared for flooding in the past, but major props to this guy for planning ahead:

Interesting. Not the method I would have used, but effective non the less.

If you had to choose between saving your wife or a rare collectable Porsche and you could only choose 1, which would you choose?

Clearly he picked the obvious choice. Bravo

That's awesome. It makes sense to float it that way you don't worry about miscalculations in weather. Looks rough and tough but worked

Floods destabilize foundations, even if you plan for it like his builder did. SO, a few more like that and the place will be unsafe, too.

As for what he did with his car, tricky. You'd think he would build a higher garage instead or something. I saw places in the lower Keys like that everywhere...

Nothing new around here and the water wasn't that bad. 1997 was much worse and they actually closed off the flood walls during that time. I have a boat marina at the end of my street off the Ohio River and see things first hand, plus the main street I follow to Louisville runs along the river as well.. There is a section near me where all the houses are on pylons as they are directly on the shore, except for one single-wide mobile home. This mobile home had pontoons under it so when the river rose, so did the home. Additionally, the parking pad next to the trailer was a metal grate with more pontoons under it to keep the car floating. There were numerous times I went by and saw it and their car floating when the river got high. I think it was finally removed a number of years ago.

What a brilliant idea. Aside from the whole not having power thing, at least you aren't going to lose your home and auto(s) in the mix as well.

It's an interesting idea, but I wonder if it would have been easier to...(gasp)...simply drive his beloved porsche to higher ground and park it before the river floods.

why think logically when you own a porsche?
