My '92 q45 seems to have a malfunctioning security alarm. It goes off intermittently for no apparent reason when the car is parked/engine off. There seems to be no pattern. It may happen several times a day or it may be fine for several days at a time. I checked for other symptoms of misaligned doors or malfunctioning door or hood switches (which can also cause the alarm to malfunction), but they seem to be fine. The alarm passes diagnostic procedures in the manual.

Any ideas?

Can I disable it?

Mine goes off if you try to unlock the passenger door with the key. Otherwise, it appears to be working fine.

Are you absolutely sure it's the OEM alarm? I've gone on literally hundreds of service calls where a car had an aftermarket alarm that the owner didn't know about. Remotes were lost between owners, auctions, dealers, etc.

Is it the horn going off or siren? Are there any non OEM LED lights on the dash? Check for evidence of non OEM accessories. Try smacking the door near the door handle (or any reinforced body panel, NOT a window or thin part of the body or you can damage it!) after the cars been sitting for a while to see if the cars got an impact sensor. The OEM system does not.

It is only the horn and lights blinking. No other LED's. I will try what you suggest (Impact). Thanks for your reply.

Dear qcuyet,

I will be interested in your findings because I have the exact same problem with my 1992 Q45. Stock alarm system. Intermittent. My solution has been to keep it unlocked. It would go off for no reason. i.e. In the driveway at 2am. Cycle for 2-3 minutes, and then turn off. Not occur again for days or weeks, then 2 or more times in one day.

I have also considered disabling it entirely. I just haven't gotten around to addressing the issue.

I'll be watching this thread. Please update with anything you find.

Thanks.

Jim

Dear qcuyet,

Have you made any progress diagnosing your problem? I am surprised someone hasn't chimed in with a fix.

Jim
