Malfunction indicator light (MI)

Hi I'm looking for any help on an issue I have, my 2009 Pathfinder malfunction indicator light came on the other day, there didn't seem to be any issues with the engine and had completed a 120 mile run the day before, I completed a ECU reset and the light went off for a few days and has just come back during a short 5 mile journey. Can anybody give me any possible/common causes for this light to come on?? I'd like to check any easy fixes before I have to get dealers involved.

Plug in OBD-II scanner and check codes. Autozone / Napa / your local parts store will check codes for free. Not sure how or why you "reset" the CEL without first checking the codes...
