malfunction indicator light for MAF or throttle body?

Hey all, I have a 2012 FX35. In early 2019, I had a Malfunction indicator light (MIL) come on. There was no affect on driving. I brought it to the mechanic and the codes pulled were P0101 and P010B which are MAF sensor codes. For some reason, they cleaned the throttle body (I didn't read the report at the time of the service).

The MIL came on again (no drivability issues) and after some research, I found that there's a TSB on this:

Subject: SB 2010-2012 FX35; MIL On With DTC P0101
Summary of ITB17020: IF YOU CONFIRM The MIL is ON with DTC P0101 (MAF SEN/CIRCUIT-B1) stored and there are no drivability issues. Clean the throttle valve and chamber of the electronic throttle control actuator.

So I suspect it's the same issue as what happened in 2019. My questions are:

1. If the codes being pulled are related to the MAF, why is the throttle body the one being serviced?
2. Is this TSB covered under warranty (that is, Infiniti or the dealership should pay for it)?

Thank you!

The bulletin also requires an IAVL (Idle Air Volume Learn). Did they perform one?

P0101 and P010B are both "performance" codes, meaning the ECM sees some issue downstream from the MAF, such as a vacuum leak or conflicting A/F sensor data, that disagrees with the amount of air being indicated by the MAF. Put simply, if the ECM doesn't know the exact amount of air coming in at a given throttle position, it can't meter the right amount of fuel. The MAF is in fact not usually responsible for these two codes, although it can be if its electrical parameters have drifted over time. That's why an IAVL is important, because it re-matches the actual MAF voltages to the "map" stored in the ECM.

If the car is still under drivetrain warranty then it should be covered, but there's no way they'll reimburse you retroactively for work done outside of Infiniti, especially since the light came back on and the work was evidently not performed properly.

Thanks VStar650CL: The report also says "Scan data shows the alpha fuel trims are 104% and 106%. The Air/Fuel sensor voltages are 2.1 and 2.15 voltages fluctuating so data looks ok. Idle speed is normal at 650-660 right now but the Throttle Position Sensor voltage is a little high at 0.7 volts at idle and no codes are coming back right now."

You're most welcome. Sounds like they didn't do (or maybe know about) the IAVL. That's the first thing to try. There's also a "Closed Throttle Position Learn" (CTPL) that should've been performed if they were concerned about TPS voltage, that operation syncs the TPS and APP (gas pedal sensor) to the ECM.
