I want to build a drift car out of a S13 Hatch. I love the potential of the ka's and probably gonna stick with it, the question I have is, How can i make it more high reving like the sr20? Will just rebuiliding the bottom work? Or do I need to concentrate on the head? Or will both of them NOT help? I don't need opinions, I need expericed knowledge. Also, does anybody here use the ka24 for drifting? if so, would you recomended it for that use?

Do head work, and also get in on the group buy for the fully counterweighted KA crank, if are that much of a baller. The stock half weighted crank really limits the high rpm use of the KA.

Just a quick question? Not an opinion? and an Answer.

Yes there is actually a lot of people drifting their KA's.

Now to the question.

Why you need a high reving Ka for drifting, when you achieve the same TQ numbers in a KA at much lower RPM then SR thats bouncing of the rev limiter?

I'm not saying the SR is a bad engine cause I think it's a really well designed one.

But I'm just curious.

The reason I was lookin into making my ka rev higher is because since I don't have lots of experience in drifting my self, I searched. And from what I understand, the biggest advantage of the sr over the ka in drifting is that it revs high, and when your sliding into a turn sideways, you don't have to switch gears because of the wider power band. Where as in the ka, you will be switching more often because of a slighly narrower power band. Plus, I like to redling my engines allot, just trying to make my ka24 take the abuse. I guess the bottom line question here is, I know for drag racing the ka24 is a winner, but is it drifting friendly? Or is it not the best for that use? I'm also really curious how many of the profesional drifters use ka's? I hope people won't start flaming me, I just want to make a good desicion before I invest 4-5k into the engine, you know... Sorry for so many questions, but last one I have is, people here who have rebuilt ka24's, at what rpm is your peak hp?

If you're absolutely intent on high revs, then it woul be better to just start with an SR. Revving is just not one of the KA's strong suits.

That said, the power band, particularly if you turbocharge it, will be most affected by how well you choose a turbo to match the Ka and your needs. You don't need to focus on peak power, so you can make some compromises that give you relatively quick spool with decent mid to upper end power. Keep in mind that the SR has less torque overall, so it needs the higher revs to give it more leverage through the transmission.
