I'm planning on relocating my CD player to my glovebox in my 89 240. The main reason is so I may use the center area for gauges and some other misc. .. and if someone looks in my windows they won't see a CD player.. it'll be locked up in the glovebox.

What I'm wondering is, has anyone here done this? I'm not sure what I'll be using to hold the CD player in the glovebox. I guess I will pull the glovebox out and make some measurements. Maybe make a din piece that'll bolt into the glovebox. I want it to look nice.

I've done similar stuff before. I would decide if you want your cd player tilting with the glove box or not, probably not. Basically I woud remove the glove box. Fabricate a mounting bracket for the radio that fits in that opening. Make sure you allow for the glove box face and sides to be put back. Look for a spot a little back and away from the side. Mount it and custom cut the glove box to close with the radio installed. Will probably take several hours to do this nicely. Good luck.

Finished it today. I'll have pictures up tonight!

Stay tuned. It wasn't hard at all... and it works great in this location. Fitment wasn't too hard.

Any questions let me know.

I still need to add some plastic around the CD player to cover it up and make it look nice.

I modified one of the brackets that holds the CD player in the stock location.

I dont know about the CD player installation....but bottle of cologne and gum definetely shows you are a player.... right tools for special ocassions... just kidding, hey thats install is looking good, definetely if you built a piece of trimming and encase the unit (wrapped in same velour material as you glove compartent door) will really give it that professional look...

stupid question but why is the deck suspended so low? it looks like you could have the deck mounted higher/ close to the top of the glovebox which would give you more space in there and look a bit cleaner.

How did you relocate the wires, are they behind the heater core? I'm new with the whole sound system deal but have an aftermarket one in mine when I bought it but do know the heating and A/C fairy well.

I didn't think about covering it in a fabric.. that's a good idea too. The calogne I use to keep my car smelling nice. =p Better than a 99 cent tree.

Any higher and it'll hit the airbox behind it. I had to keep it that low. When the box is fully open, the CD player is level.. and I prefer it like that.

I didn't have to extend them.. I pushed them behind the glovebox and zip tied the harness to the glovebox frame. You'll see what I mean if you do it.

thanks guys.

I wonder.... what if I did the opposite thing and installed gauges in the glove box. Open it up when I'm driving and then close it when parked......

Wait did someone on this forum ask a question, take responses, fab up his own peices, hosted his own pictures, and have a full explaination on why - and how he did it?

This is absolutely unheard of! I wish more people were like this. In anycase - that looks pretty neat dude, however it's going to be a pain in the *** to change a song.
