I ordered a set of clear inserts to make a set of jspec z32 tail lights. When i remove the cover do i need to paint the inside of the light behind the clear plastic chrome?

thats optional, i painted the insides when i did that to my old pair. just be careful taking them apart and putting them back together so you dont melt or crack the covers.

I did mine, and I was just too lazy to add the pinstripes, although I sometimes regret it now. I would DEFINITELY paint the inside piece chrome, it makes it look way, way better. I recently re-did my passenger side because it cracked while prying it apart the first time, so listen to epickakashi: be careful and patient. Good luck and try not to get RTV sealer all over yourself.

I've been happy with my DIY tails that I did back in the day (like 9 years ago already) but like others have said, be careful not to melt/break anything and try not to get tar everywhere lol

You can just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up a sheet of the cover that goes over fluorescent lights for about $5. Then get a Dremmel and cut it out; it may take some time to get the fitment perfect, but once again, just be patient. I'll take a pic of mine and post it when I get over this cold...

If you are going to do fakes at least paint the plastic housing chrome and add the black lines to try and look real. I honestly would rather see usdm tails over most fake ones.

Meh. I wouldn't care what other people say, if you like it I think it looks great. It was hard to tell, though, if you painted the chrome housings. Glad to see you got it back together without any casualties.
