I would hope at your age that you've become familiar with common English words (and their definitions). But if you're trying to associate a burned out, heartless radio shock jock with McCain... then you're terribly wrong (in my & many American's opinions). What do they have in common, other than being men who have spoken into microphones?

Desparation to obtain an education is nothing new. "Starving student" is a cliche engrained in American culture. This began WAYYYY before the Bush administration, even though news channels (such as the report I watched last night) want to make it seem like college kids are hurting only NOW. It's simply not true. They have more priveledge than I did while attending during Clinton's "prosperous" decade. I had no iPhone, no Abercrombie, no "reliable" car, no MacBook Pro, no Xbox 360, no keg parties... all the "necessities" this generations "needs" (yet has no money left over for books). LOL...
