Making custom mounts

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I want to MIG up my own RB swap mounts eventually, but this question is directed at anyone who has designed their own mounts for any hybrid RWD swap (LSx/JZ/RB etc).

When youre mocking the engine up, how do you ensure the drive line of the transmission is perfectly lined up with the driveline of the diff? I imagine this has to be quite precise or youre going to have major troubles with your custom drive shaft...

It actually doesn't have to be perfect since you're working with an independent rear suspension. A few tips for making mounts:- To get it close you just have to measure A LOT with both a tape measure and an angle finder!-Don't expect to get it perfect the first time. You'll likely have to shim something or redo a mount at least once (so built your mounts with the possibility of shims in mind).-It might be a good idea to find a car with the drivetrain you are using and measure how much the mounts flex (raise it up and down with a jack) so you can take that into account.-You want it to be level (front to back) or a few degrees higher in the front.-Don't expect to get it perfect the first time.-Do the motor mounts first, that way if you're a tiny bit off you can correct it in the transmission mount.-Don't expect to get it perfect the first time.

You dont want it perfect.

If you actually did get it dead even lined up with the input yoke on an IRS I believe i've read it would cause problems with the U joints not lubricating properly.

I believe thats right because if its spot on the bearings in the U-Joints would never really be used so the bearings could freeze or lock up.
