I have an extra set of tail lights, I've got the amber lenses removed. Does anyone know what materials I can use to first make the mold of the lense, and then secondly what materials to use to make the lense clear?

thin plexiglass works good, if it needs to be curved try heating the plexi and bend

you can also use the the plastic for flourescent light covers, this will work better than a thin plexi-glass due to the fact that they are carved to refract light as oppsed to a clear piece of plastic which would expose your bulbs and be an eyesore.

I'm going to use plexiglass because I want the lense to be crystal clear. The stock lights came w/ a diffuser behind the amber lense so I'll put that in place so the bulbs aren't just visible. So question, where can I get plexiglass from, and should I also get a heat gun?

you can buy sheets from lowes $6.00....a heat gun would help or you could stick it in the oven for a few minutes

the oven method works much better than a heat gun. depending on the thickness of the material set the oven to 350 degrees and check every 2 minutes or so for how soft it is. i've been working with clear acrylic rod to make custom angel eyes and other custom lighting and i use about 6 minutes in the oven for that stuff, so i'd guess a thin sheet of lexan would be about the same time if not less. a heat gun is too uneven with the heating and you'll end up either bubbling it from too much heat or cracking from not enough in some areas when bending.

good luck with it, DIY stuff is the best :D
