ok, so my friend had this done on his lancer, but it was already done when he got it from the auctions, i guess it was some drug runners car.. W/E lol,

but anyway, i was wondering if anybody would know how i would go about making, basically a kill switch for the rear lights on my 89 240sx se... like what fuse i should go to or what wire on the ecu... i've done some small wiring projects ie: fuel pump cutoff switch, and electric fan switch. but i've had diy threads to go off of for those, i just think that this would be a nice one to have also since all anybody can really see of your car at night (like if your out on the back roads practicing drifting) is your taillights, brake lights, and license plate lights.

Dude, I do not believe anyone on here is easily going to give you the infomation as shutting your tail lights off at night is dangerous. It's also just a weeeee bit illegal as well.

well it's not like drifting isn't illegal on public roads, or speeding, or passing in the left lane, or taking out a steering wheel with an airbag in it to put in a momo, or other steering wheel... i mean cmon, turning off taillights really isn't that dangerous either, i'm talking about being out on the road at 11-3 in the morning on back roads and by back roads over here, that means roads that theres barely 3-5 people that use it during the day. so no ones on them at night. i'm just bored, and i have 3 more switches on my switch board that i want to use up. and this is one thing that i've wanted and i figure as long as all the wiring is exposed and i have extra switches why not do it... if you have any other ideas for things i can make switches for let me know audtatious

All you gotta do is find the wire that runs off the button for your lights and splice a switch into it. My friend has a kill switch for his subwoofers in his explorer in case the popos show up. It PWNZ.

ya, kill switches are amazing, i have a 5 switch fiberglass switch board i made that is hidden up under the steering console cover, it's got a magnetic tab on th eback so i can switch everything off then just flip it up and it stays hidden until i get back (seattle parking sucks, so far if someone would want to steal my car, they would hafta pry my doors open(shaved handles), disable the alarm, start to hotwire my car, figure out that somethings not running right, if they're smart they'll make it to the part where they try finding the kill switches for the fuel pump, the fan switch so it didn't heat up, and the switch to make the gauge cluster work

Drifting and getting caught is one thing. Drifting and getting caught with the rear lights out is one thing + another. With the switch, they could easily increase the charges to "evading" which = more trouble for you.

Come on, you know me. I'll gladly help someone do something incredibly stupid. I don['t care if it's illegal. It's just stupid. So I'll help.

What you is a high capacity switch. 20~30 amps should do.

The easiest thing to do is to cut the wires back by the taillights. Then splice in a length of wire to run it up to the switch. Then back to the lights and splice it in.

I don't recommend trying to kill your turn signals as this will either require another switch, one for each side, or they won't work properly.

I recommend putting this switch in a location that is very obvious. I also recommend using a switch that glows red when the lights are killed, and blue or green when the lights are on.

or even easier just find the wire that activates the brake lights...because thats what you really want to disable right? Find the sensor...and put a switch on that...I don't own a 240 so I'm not sure where it'd be...can't do that in my impala either since I have a BCM...

He'll need to do the taillights if he wants to use headlights...Everybody's thought of this...just like the flipping liscense plate.

If you really want to go nuts, try searching online for the Ferrari club that road races on public roads...They have all sorts of gizmo's.

This whole killing the brake lights idea is flawed. My parents live out in the country and we will regularly encounter farm trucks that have been out in the fields all day covered in so much dirt/mud that their tail lights are covered up.

News flash. YOU CAN STILL SEE THEM!

Now, you don't see the red glow from their tail lights, but you do see a huge area of the road that is lit up with a black square in the middle of it. That is the truck.

Either way, don't cut your tail lights. You will still be seen and they will nail you with a lot of other charges

The only way I'd see this actually working is if the cop was far enough behind you. Then you go into traffic and turn your taillights back on.

That'd be a little confusing.

It would be bitchin to have some active camo like from James Bond. Die Another Day was a kick a** movie.Anyways, it's sure as hell illegal and if you want to do it, go ahead, but it does carry steep fines and possibly lethal consequences...
