Belts or idler pulleys, not chains. Pretty cheap if you do it yourself.

Please replace all three (four?) of your pulleys NOW.

Pulleys are cheap to replace, takes probably 30-45min labor. If you wait until the pulley seizes, the belt will snap off, stop turning the water pump, and overheat your motor and leave you stranded.(This happened to me last year.)

Have the water pump examined as well.. see if its making any weeping/whining noises. Whats the mileage on your 95 Q?

Maybe he was hand turning it to get "3rpm".

If the pulleys were sqeaking then, one would think it would have been obvious to him.

You do not have to replace the crank pulley.

For the parts:http://www.everythinginfiniti.com/Would be easiest (imho) to just call them at 888-216-5328. You can talk to Joe or anyone else in the parts department and they should be able to tell you which parts you will need.

I dont recall the price of the pulleys off hand, but I'm perpetually broke, and they arent that expensive to me.

You may want to do a search (red button, upper right) for "transmission flush q45" or "transmission flush q45" -- there's a lot of debate on when to flush the transmission, whether to flush the transmission, and how to properly flush it.

Do you have an external transmission cooler installed? Search for that too.

Happy motoring. :)
