Since I got my car cover I had an idea to make a lock that works with the OEM key. Why? Because its safer and more convenient. Also Nissan/Infiniti dealers charge $10 for the lock set which is only worth $1 at the most.

So who likes the car cover lock using a OEM key Idea?

Cool idea!

Now all I need is a cover and some place to go to worry about locking it.. LOL.. :-)

Here is my concern for that idea- being that the lock on a car cover is placed pretty low to the ground and exposed to the elements {especially in winter where you live} I wonder if the grit from salt/dirt/dust/etc in and around that lock will act as an abrasive and cause extra wear to the magnificent Q key, and will that abrasive be carried into your ignition lockset also??????

Damn good thinking which is why I need to find another key.

I would only use the cover when my car is at my house. Even then I can't stand guard and make sure no one steals it, I trust NO ONE! I need a life like scare crow to stand guard... :)

But its a good thing I am not that serious about this.

I wonder if you could hook one pole from an electric fence charger to it.. Some potential thief would get a real charge out of touching it.

But then it wouldn't work if they wear gloves like this guy. HA!

I could always rig a invisible wire underground so its not easily visible...

But then again you would still know because I told you.

That is a pretty cool idea, I wonder if you could take a lock cylinder from something like the glove box or something?

Personally if I have a cover on my car, and the car is locked, I would probably be less worried about the person stealing the cover and not stealing the car... a car cover lock would seem kind of pointless to me, because a box cutter could easily take care of that issue..

I have been pondering why some cars dont come with a camera on the top of the car. With todays technology and the price of a new BMW 7 series, a rotating camera the size of a penny is very feesable. Maybe even have it connect to your cell phone. Or have a screen on your keychain, so when someone comes within 5 feet of your car your phone or keychain vibrates an you can whos snooping at your car or messing with it. Or even maybe catch a damn shopping cart taking your friggin mirror off! Take that shopping centers!
