My sister has a Rogue. She has Nissan Connect. Her iPhone is connected via Bluetooth.
She can answer a phone call / text while driving.
She says she cannot initiate a phone call while driving. She has to be stopped to do so.
I don't believe it, but when I look at the online Nissan Connect manual, how to make a phone call is not clear.
It says push phone on steering wheel and then push stuff on the screen. That doesn't make sense.
That isn't the way my UConnect (Chrysler) system works at all. I push phone button, voice says phone is ready,
I say "Call so and so".
Can anybody clarify for me if the Nissan Connect can make phone calls while driving....and how to do it?
(She's 3000 miles away, so I can't play with it.)
Thank you,
Unbelieving sister.

Long press the button on the steering wheel to activate Siri Hands Free on the phone. Then ask to call somebody. Say something like "Call my brother" or "Call Redtees" or "Call Jan". Whatever Siri knows about her contacts.

You might need to change a setting to get the long press to start Siri. One of the ones managed through the options on the driver display I think. I seem to remember doing this, although it might have been on by default.

Is the phone running the latest version of iOS? Is it the iPhone X or an older model? What carrier is she on? Has she contacted Apple to find out if they know of any compatibility issues?

For full phone compatibility, go to Device Compatibility and put in all of the required info.

With the Rogue and iPhones it is required that the iphone be plugged in to have full functionally. I’m assuming you have Car Play. The iPhone wants to be in control when connected to the car and bluetooth doesn’t allow that. Bluetooth only gives partial control. What year is your sister’s Rogue? This info only applies if you have a 2014 or newer. The only way the phone function button will work is via a wired connection unless the car has a wireless connection for the phone function. Hope this helps.

I am not sure how Apple CrapPhones work, as I use Android (GS8+), and it works fine for me. All I do is use the voice activated system to speak to call the person I want, or if I want to be a bit sketchy, I use the navi screen and go to my previous calls list and dial from there. Basically, this should work with any phone, regardless of phone operating system. If this is an iOS issue, then screw Apple.

Ken, Nissan Connect is on the 2nd gens only, not the 1st gen, which leads down to OP's sis having a 2nd gen.

Ok on the 2nd gen. When I had my 15 Rogue (no Car Play) I would plug in my iPhone 6s+ and it worked flawlessly. When I would go via bluetooth is when issues would come up or certain features would not work. My instruction manual and Nissan Connect, and Nissan’s videos all highly recommended that the Iphone be plugged in. It was due to the way the OS had to be in control. Its the same way in my 2017.5 Murano. Plus my phone is always charged.

I never plug my iPhone into the car's USB jack, always a charger.

Using bluetooth works fine to play music, audio books, or overcast. It reads text messages fine (sort of), and makes phone calls and sends texts fine (sort of). The "sort of" is because, the Nissan text message interface does NOT work. It will prompt and read a message or answer a call fine. But, to send a message, you need to activate the Siri handsfree interface instead of the Nissan text message interface. It works fine to ask Siri to send a message or read a message if the prompt isn't open.

As for the Nissan Connect and messages. When I had my 15 Rogue if you wanted the Nissan Connect App to be able to compose messages you have to pay for that service. I called The Nissan Connect folks and that’s what they told me. So for me using my iphone and having it plugged in worked execellent. When I need to do anything I just said Hey Siri and asked and\ she does it without any problems. I don’t bother with bluetooth anymore. I hope you find a solution that works for you. By the way they eliminated Nissan Connect Apps in the 2017 Murano.
