I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your cousin. I work on an oncology ward in a hospital pretty regularly, and right now, I have a cousin battling leukemia. It's a brutal blood cancer... she's only sixteen... so I know what I'm talking about.
I don't know what your experience with chemotherapy was, but a lot of the time, chemo forces the disease into remission and the T cells that fight it are able to grow back faster than the cancerous cells. When this happens, barring a large scale infection or other problem that would compromise the immune system, the cancer is essentially cured.
Of course, cancer DOES take lives... and many people would argue that modern treatments only postpone the inevitable. The fact is, cancer lives inside all of us, and we are able to fight it on a day to day basis. Someday, things get out of whack... and MOST people can recover the first few and/or all times... and others just can't.
I'm sorry about your cousin, and I'm sorry about 1990_180sx's friend. But I'm also sorry for my cousin, and Greg's wife, and all those folks who are battling a very real, dangerous cancer each day. At least those who've passed away are at peace. For that reason, I am most sorry for those of us who get left behind to wonder why it happened.
