From another forum:

Quote »Nicholas Watens is a ten year old boy that all he asked from the Make a wish Foundation was to have 3,000 christmas cards sent to him. I would really appreciate it if we could contribute to this cause. This is his address:

Nicholas Wantens304 Meadow PointCanton, Georgia30115

Pass this on also to anyone else you know that would like to send this boy a christmas card. Thank you[/quote]

I have an extra christmas card sitting here on my desk. I will personalize it and send it out tomorrow. Anything I can do to make someone happy, I am more than willing to do

I think a lot of people should contribute...it doesnt take long to sign a card, address it and send it to someone who's only wish was to receive cards for christmas. He wasnt greedy or certainly didnt ask for too much. I think the least people could do is make a little boy happy this Christmas

Happy Holiday to Everyone!

Hmmm I was just thinking....I'm a teacher and thus work at a school, I could give the kids the option to make one as a giving inspired thing for the holidays during free time (they're young, K-4). Bet I could get like 50 made to send out in one package.

You my friend should be commended for doing the deeds of those that are rewarded by more than $$.

It would also be a great opprotunity for them to understand how something so simple (and as fun as making a card), can mean so much to someone else.

hmm, I'll do it tonight. I was thinking of not doing this since the 3k mark was already reached, but something good happened so I'll stop being scrooge for a night.

Er... There's just a small problem with this.

From the Make a Wish Foundation website:

ChildrenWith respect to children, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America only collects personally identifiable contact information from children who are referring themselves as potential wish children. We pass that information on to the child’s local Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter so that the chapter can contact the child’s family to make an assessment of wish eligibility, but we do not share it in any other way or with any other third parties. We do not give the ability to publicly post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable contact information on our Web site.

The way the REAL Make a Wish foundation does things is to offer an address for the child "care or" the Make a Wish Foundation. Due to COPPA, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, it is illegal for any website to collect or publish information for children under 13 years of age. You remember when you registered here at NICO, you had to chose "I am 13 years or older" or "I am under 13 years of age"? THat's why.

There's something screwy about this. I'd suggest anyone who was going to send a letter do some research on this particular child and see if he's really connected with the MaW Foundation. THen find the "care of" address with them. The above address can't be real, as it is quite illegal.

No, the 'net isn't just for stealing music, it's for taking advantage of generous people. I'ma find out who did this and sign them up for every advertiser's mailing list I can find.
