i have an 89 with a 91 dual cam dropped in it. The shop who did it gave me the biggest lemon of an engine I have ever seen, I ve already had to do work with the alternator and starter, now heres my newest problem. It started today when I was driving to school, I was about a mile out when it suddenly started sputtering when I hit the gas. I had a similar issue when my alternator failed so I pulled over and tried to make the battery die to see if that was the problem. Couldn't get it to die so I shut it off and it started back up easily, but still wouldn't rev right. As I was messing with it I realized it wouldn't rev past 2500 rpms at all, and when it idles it will idle correctly for a little the drop down and almost stall then idle correctly again for a little.

Honestly Im not sure what the issue is but my guess is that its electrical or possibly fuel related, but most likely electrical simply because of how quickly it went bad. Also I dont think its an issue but one of my plug wires is in bad shape I did replace the plugs recently but that is something I will replace.

If you have any ideas as to what it is that would really help.

Check you maf and your vacuum lines. Also try to do a diagnostic and see if its throwing any codes.
