Hey guys. I've had my z for 2 years. I just finished doing a Na to tt swap and it's becoming more of a mission day by day. I did the valve cover gaskets and when I put everything together, my car starts very slow. It cranks and turns over but not at a normal rate. And then when test driving, the power steering cut off. Can I use a Na power steering on a tt motor? I changed the brakets and it all seems to fit. Also I small hose somewhere behind the engine decided to pop and now I'm leaking water. I can't see where exactly it's coming from but I see a stream hitting the o2 sensor on the driver side. And the engine cut off once I hit second gear at high rpms. If anyone can help, I will greatly appreciate it.

Are you still using an NA fuel pump?

Did you swap out the eprom chip in the ECU with a TT one?

And yes you can use an NA p/s pump on a TT engine. The whole bottom end (block, rods, crank, etc) are the same NA or TT, just the pistons are different. So anything that can bolt up to an NA engine can bolt up to a TT block.

As for the coolant leak, there are 2 main coolant pipes on the back of the engine (going to/from the heater core) with a bunch of smaller coolant lines running off of them to the turbos, etc. One of more of them is probably leaking. Didn't you replace all the hoses before putting the engine in?

I did change the ecu. And yes I'm using the Na fuel pump because I thought it was good until I add more hp. I did change the hoses in the back. After I let the car run for a little while and turned off the engine, I heard a hissing doing and steam started to appear

What is your boost at?

The NA/TT fuel Pumps are similar but there are differences enough at boost to where it will affect you. NA pump is 2 speed motor, TT pump is 3 speed motor. Since your engine cut off at high rev...

Is there a way you can tell me the slow start? It's as if I'm turning the engine by hand in order for it to actually crank. Not literally but that's how it sounds

NA fuel pump will not work past a certain RPM. Just cuts off almost instantly. I tried it as well and failed.

With it cranking slow, how is the battery? Did you change the timing belt in the TT engine? Is the tensioner properly adjusted? If the belts is too tight, that will cause a slow cranking.

There are a ton of coolant line under the plenum, and one on the back of the engine that is a PITA to get to while the engine is in the car. That is the culprit for a lot of people with mysterious coolant issues.

To build further on that steam from the back of the engine I had the same thing when I shut her off. There was a small, pin hole leak in one of the coolant lines on the back of the engine. If I recall correctly there are two right above the EGR valve location and the lower one on mine was the culprit. Have to remove both, move some hoses and the wiring outta the way and use a very long pair of needle nose pliers to slip it on, lube up the metal hose to help. Took about 1 1/2 hours messing with it to get it on.

Thanks for ur help guys. I was able to get it started and even run Alittle bit. But now I run into a new problem. When I pressed on the gas for a test run, something popped and now the car wont run past 2500 rpm and there's smoke coming from both exhaust and passenger side by turbo. And when my friend revved, I felt air coming from that side of the turbo. Reading forums, do you thing if can be the turbo seals? Or maybe an exhaust leak? And the smoke maybe my pcv valves? Any help is greatly appreciated

Or could it be also that I haven't tuned and it may be running rich?

What color is the smoke?

I think the PCV valves only cause smoke when taking hard corners cause the oil get sucked up from sloshing to one side.

nevermind! I found it. a piping came off. I didn't tighten one of the clamps. but I do have smoke coming from my turbos, I belive it is a clogged pcv valve because I have oil in my intercooler and plenum. but at this point, its driveable. Thank you guys for your help
