I have a 89 240 and recently it has been losing engine coolant. At first I thought it was the head gasket, but I checked the oil and it was fine. My girlfriend was driving the car and it kept overheating, and instead of pulling over she just kept driving. So needless to say, my car is dead. I picked her up and opened to oil cap and smoke poored out. My guess is that she fried the piston rings, but I am not too sure. Anyways, I want to check the compression and find out, but the car wont even start. How can I go about figuring out what is wrong? Thanks for the help

At this point, the coolant issue is your secondary concern - could have been your water pump, radiator hoses, radiator, etc.

What exactly do you mean "the car won't even start?" Does it try to crank - are the engine components moving? I'm guessing they're not.

The engine will crank, but it wont start. What engine components are you talking about? I havent got the chance to open it up yet........is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
