major oil consumption in 95

I just purchased a 95 pathfinder, it has excellent compression 170 to 210psi but is drinking oil at the rate of a quart every 10 miles or so. PCV valve was cloggged cleaned it still drinking oil, seems to be blowing it out very little blue smoke looks like a diesel running when you accelerate thought first it was rich gas smoke but its raw oil hard to believe the oil rings are that bad with that much compression and only 130000 miles ,any suggestions? Im about ready to replace the engine which may be the answer.

I say it's rebuild time. And you know what you should do? Go check out the other thread about the VG34E. I think you're a PRIME candidate!

The 95 pathfinders have a V6 3.0 (VG30, practically same as older 300ZX) and I recall reading somewhere that the cylinder walls are too thin to upgrade to the VG34 pistons.... EDIT: it says that here http://www.az-zbum.com/vg34.shtml I don't know that guy but he seems pretty knowledgeable...

Doh! You're right. I just remember that the guy who did a VG34E started with a pre VG33 engine. Then pulled a wrecker for a VG33. Got a little ahead of myself.

So then I correct myself.

Time to go pull a wrecked VG33 and make it a VG34.

I take it your talking about the 96-2000 3.3? Does anyone know how much trouble it is to replace the 3.0 with the the 3.3 or even better yet the 01 3.5 or is it even possible w/o a transmission change and computer and so forth?

Yeah, would require a new ECU, but I think you can find those for the WD21. the R50's are the ones that are hard to find stuff for. But no worries, the VG33 bolts right into it all the same. THey're almost identical except for displacement and some minor tweeks.
