Think I've been posting in wrong place so let me try this..sorry guys:(

I have a 1989 Nissan 240sx KA24E with 151,000 miles. Has been running great until now, although she is still running strong. Had the thermo replaced but was still leaking coolant. Had the water pump replaced this past weekend along with the lower hose from radiator to thermostat. Nissan was closed so had an after market hose put on it, it didn't fit to well and had a slight bend in it after it was installed. Ran good for about 15 minutes then started leaking coolant again, running hot.....I have to drive it to work because it's the only car I have, I just keep adding coolant and bleeding as I go....hose will be here tommorow. Anyways, when I got in it to go up to the store this last time, was making a tapping sound, got out and checked oil and had what I call sludge on the dip stick...anyone have any odeas what in the world is going on here? It's the only car I have . Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

one of 2 things could have happened here. either you ran it to low on coolant it over heated ,which you wouldnt have noticed since when coolant isnt in contact with the sensor it doesnt indicate how hot the engine trully is, and you blew your head gasket. or you have a whole in your timing cover from the chain rubbing a hole in the water jacket of it. Has the chain been making noise for sometime? Either way the sludge is coolant mixed in with your oil.

you may want to take it to the dealer or get someone to compression test it, that will tell you if your head gasket is blown

Yes, it has been making a noise for awhile now at start up. About how much is this going to cost to have fixed? Would the car be running good if this was the head gasket? It runs normal just keeps leaking coolant, hoping that will stop tommorow when hose is replaced. What can I do about the stuff the oil?

you need to fix the problem with the coolant getting in the oil first. then change your oil. you shouldnt drive it till you get this fixed or you will distroy your engine. You need to have the cooling system pressure checked to determine where the coolant is passing into the oil system. This may require removal of the valve cover to see if its coming through the inside of the front cover where the water pump mounts. How much its gonna cost depends on who you have do the work and their labor rates. I recommend you go to a dealer as they are typically the most qualified to work on your car.

Thanks for all the help and info....I called Nissan first thing this morning and asked about what it would cost if it was the timing chain and was told it would be 1200-1500 but possibly more and that it was over 1000 for labor alone....well, guess I am going to have to park it until husband gets back from overseas, he'd kill me if I spent that kind of money without him looking at it.....Thanks again
