I am trying to get off my lug nuts to do my front brakes, and 7 lugs come off like normal. But this last one, loosened, then suddenly grabbed. I think, mabye some dirt on the threads and I try and twist through it. Now it is basically locked and will not come off. I am about 99.99% ready to get rid of this car as every thing I try and fix ends up having 4 others needing attention (last time, it needed new caliper brackets). I had zero problems with my FC so I am thinking of going back to the Mazda....

Just keep going at it until it breaks, then replace the lug bolt and nut. You can drive with 3 as long as you dont do anything too ridiculous and fix it pretty quickly.

Hmmm. I guess I'm no where as strong as I used to be cuz it is STUCK. Can I just change the lug bolt or do I need a new hub and all. Sorry for stupid questions guys, I am still a n00b!

Nah, you just have to have the bolt pressed out (I'm certain there is a way to do it yourself with a clamp or something) then you can pull a new one through by tapping it in and then tightening a lug nut down onto it to get it all the way back in. That means you have to get the old one off though ;) I bet the last time those wheels came off the tool that put them back on used an impact wrench, it happens all the time :( This will sound crazy but I've broken lugs loose by planting my foot firmly on one side of a tire iron and pulling up on the other side. If you have a big hollow tube like a metal fence post or something you can make a "cheater" bar too, just slip it over the tire iron.

Well, now the lug spins freely, but will not come off. Any more ideas?

I was the tool that put them on actually. And I used a tire iron, thank you very much.

Try to tighten it back the other way, get a can of PB Blaster and see if you can clean out whatever is in the threads. I't worth a shot. If you keep trying to back it off it's just going to cross the threads more.

Hmm, well my apologies for calling you a tool :) I assumed it was the typical idiot with an impact wrench. Grant has a much less destructive way of doing things than I do, might try his way first! If all else fails, cut it off :D

ive broken several of those @#@$ things, whip out a breaker bar, or a wrench with a long pipe, and you have to be pretty tough with it, but it should come off that way, you can put another one in your self with a hammer, and 2 lug nuts, and an impact. good luck.

i stopped using an impact on mine last time i replaced one of them. ive been using a 4 way lug wrench, and had no problems since.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU STRIPPED THE NUT AND THE THREADS (IN THAT AREA). TIME FOR THE PICKLE FORK AND HAMMER OR THE CUTOFF WHEEL.

The threads must be gone then. How far is it backed off from the wheel? Can you cut off the lugnut without damaging the wheel? I'm thinking a Dremel tool might do the trick. If it comes to that, you can cut out a piece of steel can, flatten it out and tape it over the wheel in case the cutting wheel breaks up or it slips. Good luck!

Dremel with a "cut off wheel" the little flexible pen attachment works great too. You sound like your out of options on how to get it off other than cutting.

If you have one, use the fiberglass reinforced type of cutoff wheel. They tend not to break apart in your face as much as the regular ones. Wear saftey glasses when you do this. (Grant, who's trying not to sound too much like a mother hen here :chicken )

Grant's right...I cant tell you how many ceramic cut off wheels I've destroyed (actually, about 60, I'm almost through the second pack). The fiberglass ones rock though, I need to pick some up. rico, you can definitely get one at a nissan dealership, but also probably at a pep boys, autozone, etc. We just picked one up for my roommates protege at an autozone so I know they carry them.

I think this thread just set some sort of frequency record for the amount of posts in a given period of time. It's clear that we have a great group of folks here willing to jump in and help at the drop of a hat when one of us is in trouble:jazz:

So how did I do that? And how do I replace it now that it is busted? Can I get the parts at the Jyard?
