My Rogue is currently in for service right now and the dealer just call me telling me I need a "Major Emissions Flush". Has anyone heard of this before? I googled it and couldn't find anything on it so I told them not to bother they wanted $179 for this.

I think I know what they mean and I never see that on a dealer. Genereally, I see that on small garage.

I can be wrong, but It is a liquid or something they inject to clean all you "internal" parts.

Honnestly, you have a 2008 or 2009 Rogue, so I'm sure that you don't need that and I'm not sure that Nissan Canada recommand that.

What is your mileage?

Did they told you why you need that?

Just over 50,000 Km apparently this is supposed to be done every 30,000 Km. News to me!

That sounds like BS to me, there is nothing in the official Nissan Rogue maintenance manual for this item, and definately not at the 30,000 km mark.

Normally this type of maintenance is prescribed in response to a problem such as rough idle, drop in fuel efficiency etc. that is reported by the driver. I've never seen this as a regular maint item except maybe in one the dealer creates themselves.

I'd stick to the Nissan manufacturer's maintenance schedule, be familiar with it, and when extra work is recommend by the dealer just ask for a full explanation. If it's due to a condition they've discovered that warrants the procedure, they should fully explain it then at least you have the proper info. to base a decision. And if it's based on "their" maintenance schedule, I'd refer to the Nissan schedule and directly ask them why their schedule is different. If they call it "recommended" service, I don't have a problem with that, but they need to clearly state if this is "requried" or "recommended". To do otherwise is misleading and borderline fraud in my opinion, especially if your vehicle doesn't "need" the service and they indicate that it does.
