Well to begin with I have a 91 SE with a s14 motor and dual exhuast cams. Ever since i got the car running a few months back i been having an awfull missfire, funky idle, and bad gas millage. Ive searched and tryed every possible solution suggested. New plugs, o2 sensor, 300z filter, dist. cap, rotor, wires. Still nothing. I recently hooked my car up to a Snap-On Scan tool (MODIS) and it was showing that the ECTS was reading 85 Deg. When the car was fully warmed up, so i repalced that thinking that it would fix the problem, and to my luck nothing. Still acting up, and i can set my base idle or time the car because the rpms keep surging from about 600-850. It was alot worse till i changed out the rotor and dist. cap. At this point im i have no other soultions. Does anyone think that my Dist. or coil assmembly is malfunctioning and could the exhaust cam be giving me these problems. Also is there a difference between Dist. Caps for different year s13 dohc motors. Thank you for any help anyone can possibly give me.

Could be a vacuum leak. Spray Carb cleaner all over your vacuum lines. If the engine sputters or dies you have a leak.

thanks for the reply s13EastTN, but i tryed that already with no luck, it dosnt look like its a vacume leak, if it is, it is hiding real well. Is the s14 idle air controll motor and valve the same as the s13, or can i make it work with some modification?

I really have no idea. I know the intake manifolds are different, and I heard that OBDII S14's have different plugs (not different wiring, different plugs) so...one would imagine there might be a large chance that they are different, but I certainly don't have any proof of that.

Download the FSM, then complete diagnostic procedure #3. You will find your problem.
