Post

I have been lookin around and researching things about my 91 Q. I keep reading that there is a 100% chance that something pretty bad will happen to it while im the owner. I read that the timing chain or something can screw up the whole engine. Now i dont know much about cars but i know the basics. I've checked the fluids and all that good stuff. Can anyone give me like a list of parts or things i should check or test. And maybe how to or where to get it done. I know this is a lot but I just dont want this car to go to crap, so any help would be appreciated.

If you don't know much about cars giving a list won't help much. Because you won't have the tools or test equipment. The best thing to do is pay the INFINITI dealer an hour or 2 to go over the car and give you a written estimate to fix everything. Then post the list and prices and we can help you decide.

A 15 year old lux car with a V8 can need anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000 worth of work to return to near new. Not considering paint, body work or interior cosmetics!

This assumes that now working things might fail in the next few years or tomorrow.

Since the automobile [and it's associated expenses] is the 2nd or 3rd largest consummer of your money, IMPORTANT to become knowlegable to make wise choices. Since you will have these expenses for the rest of your life.

Obviously paying $1500 to replace chain guides is better than $4,000 for a used motor.

Check out the Articles Forum. That is pretty explicit.

You will have to spend a lot of time reading the FSM and TSB, then all of Q45tech's post to get a handle on what and when to do it, and how to determine if it is being done right as few owners can do everything.
