i just bought my '93 J30 and love it. i got it for 4200 with 126k miles on it. it's in excellent condition. only problem is the doorpanel is alittle worn, cuz it's been used as an armrest. also the sunroof gets stuck every now and then. since i've got, i've put brand new dunlop tires for $69 a piece, oil change, new wipers and alignment. total came out to be only 500.36. which i thought was pretty dam good, BUT i know i need to do more maintenance also and would like it if anyone can list out what i need to do on this car. i would like it to last at LEAST 2 yrs for me if possible. i know for sure it needs new suspension, car leans alot on a turn. need brakes also, cuz the previous owner bought some $hitty brakes and slap them on ther. it feels like it grinds and whines alot. all the pads still looks good, but the annoying sound everytime i stop makes me want to pull my hair out. so PLS HELP if you can. thank's in advance...

i'll be gettin some pix posted soon! : )

Other than going by what the owners manual says, there really isnt much. Although if you are a perfectionist, there are endless lists of things you can do to these cars to make them perfect.

Things that come to mind are- changing differential fluid- I know on the Qs, you are supposed to replace the power steering fluid with mobil 1 ATF, i dont know about a J for sure

Make sure you do a search for tune up or maintenance, there are some good threads covering this.

Car: should be obvious enough

1st order of business: brakes: if they need it. if not, use permatex silicone vibration dampener on the back of the pads and shims so they dont squeal. or just replace the shims, since they probably werent replaced last time.

youll probably need new struts there, but more important is your timing belt. timing belts on '93s should be replaced every 60k. also water pump, pcv's etc. probably time for new plugs too.

transmission pan drop, filter, full fluid exchange is a good idea, since thats what cripples J30s, if anything.

No sense in waiting 100k to have your timing belt break.

guys, thanks a whole lot. well, im wanting to keep this car for a few yrs. so i'll definitely look into doing all the things u said.

carlos, when the sunroof gets stuck sometimes do i just get the motor changed or do i have to change the whole thing? i bought some lube and lubed it up. thought i fix the problem, but it didn't. i think the motor is weak or going bad cuz it's getting old...

oh yeah! my GF came back from AZ with my car and now i believe the belt is whining at me (squeling?). i'll definitely get that changed tomorrow. need to get a tune up done NE way.

thanks again guys!

There is a kit out from Infiniti that makes J30 sunroof repair pretty affordable (almost cheap).Might be worth atrip to the dealer.

Make SURE your new plugs are NGK's as anything less (even the hi end bosch) are PROVEN problematic in all Infiniti's. And completly flush teh cooling system while u r at it replace w/ 70% distilled water, 1 bottle redline wetter water and rest AF.

Is the coolant flush something feasable to do at home, or is it easier to go to a reputable shop and have them do it, specifieing the proportions??

the coolant flush is very easy to do. but you would need a bucket to collect all the old coolant first. i've done it before, but not on this car.

so is it just kind of a drain, draining the block and such? Or do you actually stick a hose in there and push all the old stuff in?

i've done it once. i'll admit im not a genious at this. u can buy the kit a pepboys for really cheap maybe 10 bucks or less. it comes with instructions on the back. don't cut any hoses until you are sure which one to cut. there is also a drain plug located at the bottom of the radiator. a little platic screw plug. might be different on other cars. the hose ur suppose to cut should be near the firewall i think. im not sure if im using the right word. but it will say on the bak of the kit. i hope this helps u a little bit. it should be very easy. good luck! im gonna need it too. im gonna do a flush on mine soon...
