I did see a similar thread but it was brief and not very specific.

I just hit 3000 miles. The Versa S AT is my first brand new car (other cars always used). I drive 35 miles highway total to and from work everyday and a couple of miles around town every day. I live in the mild temp SF Bay Area.

Should I follow Schedule 1 or Schedule 2?

Does all the maintenance need to be done at a Dealer for the warranty?

What are schedules are other versa drivers following?

Even though most of my commute is highway, I follow the more severe schedule and have service done every 3750 miles, just to be safe. No, the work does not need to be done by Nissan, but keep the receipts.

(When I brought my V in to the dealer for 15,000 mile service their list was different than the service manual showed, leaving some items out and adding others. Since then I've had my regular mechanic do all the work, although I've had to load up on the in-cabin air filters for him since even the Nissan dealer never has them in stock. They figure nobody's ready for 15,000 mile service on them in just a year, although I've got 35,000 miles on mine!)

My daughter just bought a Versa from a dealer a little farther away, and they told her to have it serviced every 5,000 miles, there or not. Since she also was given a lifetime powertrain warranty by them, that's what she's going to go by.

After just 15,000 miles does the in-cabin air filter really need to be replaced?

It does show it that way on the schedule. My dealer said they didn't routinely replace it and just check it instead, but since they have to take out the glovebox to check it, most of the cost would already be eaten up, so I said don't bother. (They didn't have it in stock, anyway...) I had my mechanic replace it the next week and he saved it to show me. I was surprised how dirty it was, and I don't even use A/C all that much!

We plan to follow the more severe schedule as well. Over the years I've that it is much cheaper in the long run. While in the shop for regular maintenance a good mechanic will sometimes spot other potential problems, thus preventing more expensive repairs in the future.

By "Severe" Do you refer to Schedule 1 or to the Premium schedule as per the Nissan Guide?

Thanks everyone for their input.

I do my own maintanace & followed the 3750 schedule. Now at 15,000 miles I am switching to every 5,000 miles.

This car burns clean & the oil shows it. Mobile 1 synthetic standard oil.

The US EPA is also pushing for car manufacturers to re-evaluate the 3,000 mile oil change schedules since most new gas burning cars are so clean. All that is needed is a larger oil filter, just in case.

There is an air filter under the hood. I didn't know there was an "in cabin air filter." Where exactly is it? I don't see anything in the manual about it.

Here's where it shows it. (Page 20) The service schedule lists it as a 15,000 mile replacement on both schedule 1 and schedule 2. (Page 9-10)
