I have a 2009 Rogue with 4,000 km on it which is only 6 months old. Nissan Maintenance Schedule shows 12,000 km at 6 months, consisting of Air Filter, Checking Fluid levels, Cables and Hoses, Drive Belts, Exhaust, Power Steering, Suspension, Oil Change, Drive Belts etc. Cost $119.95. I intend to get Oil Change but I wont have 12,000 kms on Rogue until Early Spring. At this time is it necessary to have all this work done now or can I want until later without jeopardizing warranty? Thanks for help.

I was in the same situation and the dealership told me to wait. When I called to book the appointment, they asked how many km were on it and said that they would wait until 12,000km before the big service.

From the Warranty Booklet:

Quote »You are responsible for properly maintaining your vehicle, depending upon your driving conditions as outlined in the Serviceand Maintenance Guide and Section 7 Appearance and Care in theOwners Manual.[/quote]At a bare minimum, you have to perform the basic maintenance (Schedule 2) as per the Nissan Service & Maintenance Guide that came with your vehicle. If you follow this, there should be no issues with warranty coverage.

The work does not need to be performed by a Nissan dealer either. So long as you document it, you are fine. For example: I do my own oil changes and save the receipts along with odometer readings.

My take on regular scheduled service? Modern cars need little in the way of periodic maintenance. Aside from oil and filter changes, little else is required. Tune-ups are a thing of the past, there are no valves to adjust, spark plugs to replace (at least not until 100,000mi or so), etc.

Although important, the 'Regular Scheduled Maintenance' promoted by Nissan and it's dealers is a way to generate service revenue. In many cases, it's well above what is required by Schedule 2 Maintenance. For someone who doesn't mind spending the extra cash for peace of mind, it's very thorough. For the rest of us on a budget, Schedule 2 Maintenance is just fine... albeit oil changes are better done every 6,000km, esp if you drive lots in the city.

Just to give an example, I had my '03 Altima for 150,000mi (240,000km). All I ever did was:

- Regular oil and filter changes- Replace the air filter- Change the transmission fluid- Change the spark plugs once- Replace brake pads twice- Service/clean/lube brakes at least once per year.- Replace worn out tires- Replaced the accessory drive belt

I did almost all the service myself and simply checked off the appropriate list in the service guide. I backed up the oil changes with receipts.

I never really had to touch anything else and it ran as good as the day I bought it when I traded in.
