Okay...I am about to approach the 3500 mile mark on my 2008 M45s. If I do a lot of freeway miles (in Southern CA), what sort of maintenance schedule would the sages of the Nico forum recommend for the likes of this car.

The finance manager also recommended some prepaid maintenance and extended warranties when I bought the car. I don't plan on keeping the car for more than 4-5 years - I would average about 14K miles per year.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just follow your maintenance schedule in your owners manuals. If your thinking just because you drive highway miles that you can go longer on your oil changes your mistaken....unless you switch to semi or full synthetic oil. The standard oil is good for the 3,750mi oil change interval, but not any further. The full synthetic oil is man made and will not break down nearly as fast as conventional oil will. Full synthetic oils can withstand over 5,000mi between oil changes. I'm sure they are engineered to go longer than that, but your oil filter may not.

Over four to five years, with 14 to 15k miles per year, I agree with the above post: just follow the manufacturers recommended standard maintenance schedule and you should be fine.

If you don't expect to go past 70k mile warranty period, then the extended warranty is a waste of money too.

However, if you plan to keep the car longer than that, then you can do a few extra things. Lots of posts on that topic!

I got a very good deal on the Elite Maintenance Pkg so I bought it. I did some calculating based on prices I got from the dealer on scheduled maintenance fees and it works out to a substantial savings. The downside is that they follow the mainenance schedule EXACTLY. They won't perform any service before it is due unless you want it on your dime. They also don't cover synthetic oil. If you want synthetic oil its about $20 out of your pocket each oil change. Even with that though if I keep the car for the 60K miles I still save about $900.
