How do you keep your own maintenance records? Software, folder in glove box/ memory...

Do you keep every receipt for oil filters, coolant, etc?

Do you mark down your milage and date?

The paper gets folded and placed in the glove box. I may have to move it to a folder since my glove box is small and getting very full.

All records are also recorded in Excel with mileage, costs, dates, and service notes. Separate cells track annual costs and total costs.

I honestly don't keep them. What's the need? I don't buy cars with the intent to sell them, and I don't buy cars with warranties. Thus: no need for detailed maintenance records.

Maintenance records are key to selling a vehicle. Regardless of intent, chances are great that you will sell your vehicle at some point and it's ALWAYS better to have records. I keep receipts for all of the parts and fluids. I have a folder in my filing cabinet for all of my car stuff.

I don't disagree. But for myself I simply don't see the need. Of the five cars I've owned, I have sold two. Not to worried about it. I keep recepits and work orders and such (still have folders for the DeVille and Maxima), but I've never bothered to record oil change dates/mileages or anything like that. I don't see why anyone would believe an excel spreadsheet over my word anyway: they're both equally unprovable.

I keep everything in an Excel file, but I rarely hold onto actual paper copies unless it pertains to a warranty.

cool thanks. I think I like the file cabinet way, along with an excel sheet.

My car is out of warranty but the trans is under warranty for 10yr/120,000 so if something happened to that I would think Nissan would want all service records or they would say "oh you didn't change the oil this one time, tough s**t".

If you have an Android device, there are some pretty good car-ownership-data tracking apps out there. aCar's interface isn't the cleanest, but it's probably the best all-around option I've seen. It can even export to excel (if you're willing to shell out $6 for the pro version).
