Hi - I'm hoping some of you more experienced Infiniti owners can help me (or at least give me some encouragement!)

I bought a new J30 with 84K a couple of weeks ago, and I'm trying to get up to speed (so to speak) on its maintenance. It seems to have been maintained well, up to 75K, but I think it was driven very little for the past couple of years.

So I went to the local Chevron station to buy some injector treatment, as I have read on this site, and the guy wouldn't sell it to me! He said that Tecron was in the gas, and I didn't need to add any. He said if I really wanted some, to buy it at Kragen, because it was cheaper there.

Well, I appreciate his intent, (I think,) but isn't it important to keep the injectors clean? Is the Kragen solution really the same as Chevron's?

Then today, when I was checking out new tires, I saw that the tire place did transmission services and flushes. I tried to ask him if they could do the full service (with fluid exchange and pan drop, ) and he discouraged me, too! He said that if the car has been serviced before, and the miles were low, I didn't need to do anything.

Is it because I'm a woman? (I hate to play the gender card, but I'm starting to wonder...) I really feel like I'm swimming upstream here. I'm also trying to make an informed decision on tires, and no one seems to be taking me too seriously here. Is there a way to find a NICO savvy mechanic in the Monterey/Salinas (CA) area?

I want this car to last as long as possible (and be as trouble free as possible.) Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Marianne

Chevron Techron helps, and works well. But I recommend Bellman's B12 Chemtool (available at Schucks/Checker/Kraegens for 3 bucks) as a stronger, cheaper alternative.

Techron ingredients are in the Chevron fuel, but in a less concentrated form.

Best way to keep the injectors clean is by using clean gas at a reliable gas station. If you are experiencing problems, consider having an injector rail flush done. Its not really expensive.

BG44k is the most expensive...... Theres a big thread about it, and it seems that most all other things actually have the BG44k ingredients, but in much less concentrated form.......

Save your injectors, and do a fuel rail flush!!!

With the transmission, their crazy...... Just tell them to do it!! Or you can DIY..... Easy if you got some jackstands, you know how to turn a wrench, and you dont mind getting messy........

I recommend "ultrasonic fuel injector cleaning" which may or may not be available in your area. In Toronto it costs about $170 bucks but is worth every penny. You feel the results immediatly, both at acceleration and at the gas pump. Mileage greatly improves and so does power. "ultrasonic cleaning" is designed to return your fuel injectors to "new condition" and it depending on how much you drive and what type of gas you use only needs to be done every 2 to 4 years. BTW, I had my injectors cleaned ultrasonically two years ago and I'm still feeling the positive effects.

Where did you get this service done.......?

Rail flushes will return them to almost new performance.......

The service manager at my Infiniti dealer recommended, Dr J's Performance Center here in Toronto (they specialize in Honda/Nissan/Toyota Performance tuning) for the service. He advised me that a rail flush doesn't get out 100% of the deposits found in a fuel injector, especially any really hard deposits but an ultrasonic flush does and the effects last longer.

What does the "ultrasonic" part mean? It blasts the deposits away with sound waves???

I guess something like that...... I heard of that kind of thing before....... Saw a thing in sharper image that you put like glasses and jewelry inside this container filled with some fluid, and let it do its thing and it works great!
