I'm about to buy an 09 or '10 G37 sedan and I have a few questions for the techs (or anyone) about maintenance.

1. What oil/weight do you recommend? In my 05 G35, I used Royal Purple 10W-40. I felt that the increased weight would help with burning oil problem with the REVUP engine. In fact, my G never burned a drop! I keep hearing about Ester oil...what's the true deal here? Do you have to use ester oil? Is it worth the extra $$? Lets have a definitive answer!

2. Same break-in as older G's? I figure take it easy for the first 1k miles, change the oil/filter around 1-2k miles.

3. Paint. Is the paint "self-healing" paint? How does the front bumper look after a few thousand miles? I ended up repainted my G35 and that paint was MUCH more durable!

4. Tires. Has the tire feathering issue been fixed? My G wasn't too bad...I ended up replacing the tires due to normal wear.

Hope to be in a new G soon!

I asked that question when I test drove an 09 G37 6 speed at the dealerThe only reason ester oil is recommended is some people object to valve noise when the engine is cold.If you've ever driven a diesel the noise shouldn't bother you.The valve noise disappears as the engine warms up.I use 5w-30 in my G.

Thanks telco!

When I bought the car today, I spoke with the service manager and he confirmed what you just said. In fact they did an oil change with regular 5W-30...I plan on changing it at 1k with a good synthetic.
