Hey, Maine, are you able to get this ultra low sulphur gas in Maine?

Yup, I drive by about a dozen Irving stations a day. I've never paid attention to the sulfur content of gasoline, but it sure sounds as though Irving has got a good thing going. I fill up both my vehicles at Irving almost every time... just due to convenience. They are always equally priced to the rest of the bunch… and conveniently located.

Funny thing about Irving though, they are primarily a logging operation. I'm all for their capitalistic endeavors... but a forest stripping company that is concerned about clean gas seems a little hypocritical. Although, from what I have read they do pay very close attention to sustainable forestry practices.

Actually, I think they are primarily a petro chemical company, LPG, heating oil, etc. at least originally. They're also involved in pulp and paper, logging, trucking, construction and ship building. Their refinery is apparently one of the most modern in N. America. They say their lubricants meet the latest industry specs. I wonder if they're making synthetic oils and how they compare to the Mobil Ones, etc. in price.

Yeah... I guess they could be primarily petrol oriented... but around here it is their logging (pulp, paper, etc) that gets all the attention. The northern 2/3 of Maine is pretty much owned and operated by the logging companies... and Irving is the largest. It is amazing... most of the roads up there are privately owned... and they charge a toll... to go across DIRT ROADS!!!! It is a different world "up county"!

How did you stumble across this info anyway? It's got my curiosity and I'd like to find out more.

I was watching (and it's repeating right now) a show on TLC about deep ocean oil drilling off the coast of Nova Scotia. The oil company is called EnCana. That got me curious as to who these guys are as I hadn't heard of them before. That led to Irving Oil (which has kind of a family connection).

I checked them out more and their concerns are massive. They own a shipping line and their ship building includes state of the art naval frigates. It looks like they're also into rail lines. And they're privately owned! Probably why you don't hear about them too much.

I just saw an Irving ocean going oil rig supply ship on the show. So there you go. The rig is Norwegian. What a machine!

That's pretty cool... I hear about them and see them every day... but never appreciated it much. They have run TV ads bragging about the 'sustainable forestry' and there have been many local articles written about the matter. But their petrol hasn't been hyped much.

Thanks for the info Vimy.. I think I will look into it further.
