i've been putting together and tearing apart 240's in an effort to learn as much as i can, not just about 240's (S13) but cars in general. i figure if im gonna learn about a car, at least make it a car i really like. so i've been checking into Sr20de swaps as opposed to the Det cuz it's cheaper. i want the car to perform well, but it's not going to be an all out drag car or anything. so i figure i could spend a little on the DE and learn as im putting it in. and for my next project step up to the DEt when i know what im doing. im going to list my questiongs cuz if i just put them in the thread they may be overlooked. i've done a search and read a lot of good threads, but nothing really that similar to what im asking:

1. does this sound like a reasonable route to go?2. is there a lot of difference in installing the DE vs DET (obviously turbo).3. how big of a difference should i notice if installing the DE vs my stock KA24E?

thanks.

the DE uses a single coil to drive the spark plugs, where as the DET uses the ignitor chip to drive 4 coils.

I'm trying to remember if the DE got the inbound coil like our 95+ KAs. The S13 KAs had the seperate coil, but the S14 got an integrated coil/distributor. If it does, I believe you have to put a dropping resistor inline to the coil. Other than the coil being slightly different, you might be able to get away with using the stock KA harness and not having to tear it up badly to get everything to work.

I've heard you can run the SR20DE on the KA harness and ecu unmodified.

it would make sense since the ignition setup is identical. the main difference between the SRDET and KA harness is the wiring of the ignitor.
