I know this is a very stupid question but im not used to VH series and was in the process of tearing down the bottom end, and just so i dont mess anything up is there a trick to getting them out? I have the windage tray off, the block girdle off and the main bolts from the side out. I figured they should come out easily after that but not so ( at least on mine) Is there an easy way to get them out or what? I am probally just overlooking the obvious so before i go crazy with a BFH I figured i would ask people who knew what they are doing

Probably less than 5 members on NICO have removed the main caps. The 6-bolt bearings probably means the caps are a real precision fit. There should be a threaded hole at the center of the bottom surface of each cap. This was meant to be used with a slide-hammer type of tool--presumably Infiniti knew it wouldn't be easy. Like Wes said, make sure you have a manual. What's the tear-down for?

No I dont have a fsm Need one in a bad kind of way though. sucks trying to work on this engine without one. Its unlike any other engine ive tore down, but its a work of art I saw the threaded holes on center and thought it would take something like that but i didnt want to force them out if they werent supposed to be forced out. Im tearing it down due to the chain guide problem. The broken parts stopped up the pickup or filter, etc. and the bearings werent getting enough oil. You guys know the end of the story Thanks for the replies and guidance, hopefully ill get them out tonight. Any suggestions on purchasing a fsm? BTW i am only rebuilding because i got the whole engine for 100.00 and have a perfect crank, pistons and rod laying around.

Can you still take pictures of the parts? Also, tell us what actually happened to the engine? This is supposedly very similar to what happened to Wes's old Q. It died of oil starvation.
