Was talking to my uncle the other day, he works at Toyota. He mentioned that Toyota's have different bearings for each journal. something about close tolerances and such, said chevy's don't do it so the guys I work with wouldn't prolly know about it.

Anyone rebuilt a CA know about it? or do you just stick the set of bearings into the spots and call it a day?

Oh yeah, looked at my crank the other day, what the hell hold it in place? What do u unbolt to remove it... first full tear down I've done. I haven't looked at it in over a week, so I just thought id ask before I go back out there soon.

As usual, thx all in advance!

Take your crank to a reputable machine shop and let them determine if your crank is okay to use standard size bearings or it needs to be cut and refitted with over-sized bearings.

Well when I looked at the bearings they didn't show any signs of abnormal wear or heat markings. This is the from the motor the belt snapped on, bent some valves and whatnot. The whole bottom end looks pretty clean, I got a good motor (to bad i &%$*ed it up ).

I could get a mic set and check the width myself, it was something I learned how to do during my high performance class. I was just curious as why he would tell me stock bearings are differently sized to begin with.

to size main and rod bearings, you need to look at numbers on the block (oil pan mating surface) and the end of the crankshaft (counterweights) there are numbers on each that correspond with one and other, and that gives you your bearing grade....there are 4 or 5 different grades to choose from!

dont let anybody tell you its not important because aftermarket bearings have only grade, pluse oversize.
