I have the feeling I will be laughed at for this but, is the extra strength magnetic oil drain plug selling on ebay for $18 worthwhile? Will it make any difference in engine life or is it just a gimmick? It would seem to make sense in theory.

Also anyone know if theres an oil filter cooler available for the S13? Do they work or is it more hogwash.

I don't remember if the original oil plug is steel or brass, but you may just want to pick a neodymium iron-boron magnet on ebay (1dollar) and use that in your original plug. It will work 10x better ('cuz ndIB magnets are 10x stronger then ferrite). It's used mainly to spot wear and tear, and I guess clean your engine a little and reduce minimal friction. 18$ is not worthwile IMO. oil coolers can be installed in any car, and I don't know of any that came from the factory. ( i bet aftermarket units are available though).

defenitly worthwhile, the rear end and transmission come with magnets from the factory, why not have one on the block?

I would be scared if i found metal when i drain out my oil. Not to mention if there is any metal, it's usually picked up by the oil filter

my transmission one was pretty coated, nothing big, just a lot of tiny filings. the rear end had some, nothing like the transmission had.

Agreed.

We had a discussion like this in infiniti general.. I think they're not necessary, but wont do any harm. its a win-win IMO....

If you change your oil every 90 days like your supposed to you shouldnt have to deal with that!
