So I played through the demo for Mafia II and considering I didn't play the first one b/c it was on the PC, but i have to say I actually liked it. I started the demo with absolutely no hopes or ambitions and came out actually pleased with the level of detail they have put into this. The shooting side of it is easy and actually fun, the driving side of it actually quite difficult when it's set to simulation. The soundtrack is spot on and actually nice to listen to for once, and considering that it takes place in the late 40's early 50's it's chock full of oldies. The best thing about this game isn't the driving or fighting parts, it's all the tiny details and interactiveness that oozes out of the game, from being able to turn lights on and off, making phone calls, and checking your fridge for goodies to eat and drink (the bathroom is also interactive). You can go to stores and buy clothes, guns, food fix and tune your cars, hell you even have to get gas which is a nice detail that no other game of this type has included. Yeah, yeah it's GTA style gameplay, but the graphics are much much better, the details and interactiveness are better, and the time period makes it that much more fun.

Oh and there's boobs, and nudity, and sex (though sex isn't in the demo, it's in the actual game). That's right, like GTA where you have to find the pigeons or whatever, in this the big hunt is for magazines that once found give you a nice big picture of Playboy Playmates which makes this game that much more epic win.

I don't normally get excited about any one game, outside of Forza, Batman Arkham Asylum, and regretfully Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising (sorry about that one guys). So please give your .02 cents. The only other game that will be out soon that is promising the same game play and time period is LA Noir, which I'm also looking forward too.

I played the demo and was very pleased with it... I will definitely rent it, maybe even buy it. Driving was fun and felt way more realistic than any other crime-sim I've played, and the gun fights were actually fun and involving for a change.
