MAF wiring help please

So i checked my codes and got a p0100(maf circuit) so i traced it to my signal wire. But, when i cut open the wire loom from the screw on the fan shroud to the maf plug there are three wires. black(ground) white/black(power) and white(signal wire). the signal wire and the black wire are joined together and again insulated. when I opened this insualtion to separate the two wires to see if they were cut, melted etc. i found a third bare wire no insulation.

So. after a long story my question is what is the bare wire. The wiring diagrams show only the three insilated wires (black, black/white, white).

its just extra insulation. nothing to worry about. it serves no other function.

I know that there is an extra insulation around the already insulated wires. I was wondering why they would take two insulated wires and a bare 3rd wire and wrap all three in another insulation. What is the 3rd bare wire for? Ill try to get some pics...

Maybe to ensure that the current going through the power wire doesn't effect the signal wire. Have you ever crossed a power wire over a speaker wire? It effects the sound with a horrible whine.Maybe the same concept?Just tape the two that were insulated, then tape them all together.. Thats what i did...

well there is a problem with my signal wire so I am going to have to run another one from the maf to the ecu.

as long as your maf signal and maf ground are wrapped decently it doesnt affect anything.
