I have a s13 Blacktop, on my way to work one day it just all the sudden started bucking over 3k rpms.

It idles fine, revs clean until 3k and then sounds like the ignition is getting turned off and on real quick, like a rev limiter.

This gets worse to the point where it won't exceed 2k and won't idle at all.

I checked the maf wires to the ecu and everything is ok. unhooked battery for hours

Voltage at maf concerns me.

At idle its 1.6v, 2800rpm its 2.8v

is this normal?

I put new plugs in it and the old ones look fine.

Your MAF is BAD.

I assumed so. I just wanted verification before tracking down a new maf.

I've tried 2 different mafs. same results each time.

1.7v idle, 2.8v at 2800rpm, hits 2800-3200 and starts on/off/on/off/on/off and smells rich.

I just paid $100 for a maf and I'm sitting here pissed off at my f'ing car.

any ideas?

Make sure that the blackwire w/ white stripe (signal 5V wire) is isolated from the rest maby it;s getting interfiernce from the 12V (power) wire.

after the car is warm the MAF volatge settles down to 1.5v at idle but still climbs over 2v heading towards 2800rpm.

I've checked the wiring to the ecu and its fine. unhooked the maf, ran + and - directly to battery and with car idling got same voltage. maf unplugged it idles slightly worse and revs the same.

I'm starting to think my ECU is toast?

I can't have 4 bad mafs?

I checked ofor error codes. gave a 55, No Malfunction.

Could it be a huge airleak that I'm not seeing?

check your ecu around the red spots boxed out being that part of the board is around the maf problems.

Is that capacitor known to go bad?
