ok test the maf voltages yea yea... how the hell do i do this physically??? I've heard backprobing. what the hell does this mean?

I have a multimeter in hand, where do i physically stick the probes? the wires aren't exposed, do i expose them somehow? and i know i have to test while engine running.

Same question for coolant temp sensor and o2 sensor.

I've searched and searched. everyone just says test its voltages but doesn't actually say how to do so. Maybe i'm just retarded... not.

Thanks for any help.

Backprobing is where you stick the probes in the back of the plastic connector where the wires enter it. I believe the FSM shows how to peel back the rubber boot on the MAF connector to do this, but I prefer to not mess with old insulation like that, so I back-probe for the sensed voltage at the ECU connector. You can read every sensor there. You can also buy wire-piercing probes from electronic/tools stores. Some are better than others of course.

i personally dont reccomend piercing the insulation. i have found that sowing pins or t-pins work very well. you take them and stick them between the wire insulation and the rubber boot around it(at the connector) and keep going untill it contacts the terminal. that is called backprobing. front probing is just sticking the lead up against the terminal with the connector unplugged.

Thank you both very much.

I kinda thought it was like that but wasn't sure if i should stick things into the insulation around the wires.
