I just got my sr running, well sort of. when i start the car up with the maf hooked up it idles really rough and smokes, but if it is unplugged it idles perfect and runs in safe mode. i have searched about it but i was just wondering if when you extend the wires is it critical to use shielded wire? because i didn't, but i checked my wiring other wise and it seems fine. could it be the maf itself? if it is the maf which one is a direct replacement?thanks

The SOHC KA maf is a direct replacement. Also the MAF on the KA powered Stanza's is the same. It certainly sounds like your MAF if bad or the wiring is wrong. When I tried to start my car with the Z32 MAF for the first time, it was pissed, shot fire, popped, smoked, etc. A rewire cured it sure as it could.

As far as sheilded wire, it's a good idea to extend it with shielded wire, but I can't see it would affect it THAT much. See if you can borrow someone's correctly operating MAF and see if that helps.

No, the SR MAF is exactly the same as the SOHC MAF

That is if you have the plug to splice into.

They are the same, same pinout, but the plug is different. You need the plug off of a KAE harness.
