What would you guys recommend? A MAF from a Cobra or one from a z32?.

Thanks

No one's gonna answer your question cause its too general. You might want to add a little info about your setup.

Oh, and they'll probably tell you to use the search tool.

Wakkolio,

I talked at length with Ben from JWT and he told me the cobra MAF will top out at around 350 HP MAX. I was going for more than that so I chose the Z32 MAF which he also told me would be good for 500-550 HP MAX. If you are going with the Z32 MAF and JWT upgrade make sure you let them know this and also they will have to know what injectors you are using. I went with Denso 660cc units from Heavy Throttle and everything is working great. Hope this helps.

Not to cause trouble on a different board... but are you sure that you don't have those two MAF's backwards? The z32 maf is 60mm (I'm pretty sure) while the Cobra maf is really close to 3.5", or 89mm. I don't see how the Cobra would max out before a z32 maf, seeing as the difference in diameter, with all else being the same, would allow the Cobra maf to flow 50% more air than a z32. Also, JWT has the ability to change the MAF voltage output, and do it on 50# and 72# injector setups (like mine). I'm thinking that JWT didn't want to re-curve the voltage output on the Cobra maf running your 660cc injectors, so just recommended the Z32 maf to you since they don't have to change much at all.-Jeff

While I do not know the limits of the Cobra or Z32 MAF, size only has to do with how much resistance the MAF may be to flow. The limit of the MAF has to do with when the signal maxes out.

All MAFs run on a 0-5v scale, and the scale is very similar from maf to maf. So for argument's sake, we'll assume that the MAF voltage curves are the same. So now, the only factor is which MAF wire will cool slowest. The smaller the tube, the more the wire will cool, sending a higher voltage. In the KA 45mm maf, it has a smaller area than a Cobra 89mm maf.. so the same flow of air will cool the KA and the Z32 maf wire faster. I don't think I'm making sense.. but it's not a concept.-Jeff

It might be helpful if you let us know your assumptions when you post. I would agree with you IF you assume the hotwire voltage input/outputs have the same curve for the same amount of hotwire cooling...

The best voltage vs. flow chart I have is here:

All mafs run on a very similar curve to that, but not really exactly the same. I don't really have that curve for a KA or Cobra or Z32 maf. I'm trying to work with people during dyno runs to just get a printout, so I can lay the curves over eachother. I'm out of words right now. If you have a question, I'll try to answer it.-Jeff

Jeff, The MAF JWT has programmed their ECU for is the 1993 Cobra MAF only. It is not 89mm, it is 65mm on a stock '93 Cobra. Also, one of the previous posts was correct, the size has nothing to do with the performance of the MAF itself.I can research this further and get if you guys would like me to just so we all know for sure, like I said I was going by what was told to me on the performance of the 2 units.
