how do you know when your maf sensor is broken or dirty, does it cause the CEL to come on?

Sometimes you get a CEL, sometimes you don't. If your car is surging, or can't break 200-2500RPM, then you probably have issues with the MAF.

Use electrical contact cleaner or a cleaner specificly designed for the MAF. Be sure to let it dry completely before reinstalling and starting the car.

yesterday, i got a CEL light and had it checked today and the code was P0100 which is something with the MAF sensor and recently I replaced the MAF sensor with the remanufactured one could this have caused this? or something else. when my mechanic ran a diagnostic it said that it was running too rich it was at like 25% in one of them and always stayed at 0% in the other.

25% and 0% of what, that makes no sense.

my apologies for the trouble i've caused, it will never happen again. anyway about the maf sensor I can't remember which bank it was in but the short term fuel % trim was like 25% and the long term % trim was staying at 0%.

Also, my mechanic wanted to know what if i did anything to the car after i bought it. All I did was put regular gas instead of premium, can bad gas cause trouble with the maf and is there anything else that bad gas can cause.

If your fuel trim is that messed up, it's probably a vacuum leak on on the heads, a bad oxygen sensor, or one of the cats is clogged.
