I cleaned my MAF sensors today HR nngine with dual MAFs). I allowed them to dry and re-installed them. At start-up, I have CEL lighted and RPMs at warm idle are at 1000 (usually 600rpm after engine is warm). Acceleration feels normal, but revs are higher at all speeds. I cleaned the sensor on my old 07 M35 with each air filter change and never had a problem.

2009 M35 HR engine - less than 30k miles. Used CRC brand MAF sensor cleaner spray.

Any ideas?

Make sure the plugs are seated. Check them again.
If it is a MAF code, it will stay there until you reset the codes with a scanner or disconnect the battery.

Out of curiosity why did you clean them? Try performing the ecu reset, idle air reset and TB position reset. Don't know if it's the same as the DE but give it a try. throttle-response-t580046.html#p6515206.

Got to do what he ^^ said!! Idle relearn and really don't need to (shouldn't) clean the MAF in our cars! You can easily damage them permanently!! I did this on my G35s sedan('08 HR), cleaned the throttle bodies and MAF and no problems! Helped a friend do it on his g35 same year and everything but his did what yours is doing! Threw a code and idle going crazy up and down.... After doing the idle relearn a few times the only solution that worked was to disconnect the battery for atleast 24 HR! Everything went back to normal and no problems since! :bigthumb:

Don't you just hate when someone posts a problem, you take the time to respond with advise, and BAM, the original poster doesn't even bother to acknowledge or at least say thanks ?!?!?!?

I humbly apologise for doing just that. After posting my troubles, Fetucini and I left for a scheduled weekend get-away in Jamaica. I was not home to respond to your comments / advise.

However, I read your posts this morning and I must say ... You lot are THE BEST. I preformed the reset procedures. All is now perfect again. Idle revs are now back down to about 500 and revs at all speeds are also back to normal. In fact, I just finished doing my famous 'happy dog dance' LOL.

Thank you, Svard for posting the procedures. To answer your question ... why did I clean the MAFs? Well, I can be certain where I read it, but it was suggested to clean the MAFs every time you change the engine air filters. I had done it on my 07 M35 DE engine with no issues. Perhaps the HR engine doesn't fancy having its MAFs man-handled.

As always, Thank you ALL for taking the time to answer this post.

If you have stock CAI air cleaner, it should not need a MAF clean when changing. Aftermarket CAI with oil impregnated filters will deposit oil on your MAF so cleaning is a good idea whenever you service those.
It is not very difficult to access your MAFs, so waiting until they throw a code is a decent approach.

This is exactly why I have stopped using K&N filters that require oil.

Me too. I had a MAF die on me on my 1999 Maxima SE after using K&N filters. Said, "Never again."
