actually i was under the impression that the screen disturbs the flow that the sensor can read it. with the air flowing though the screen it sets a patturn or something that that mafs reads. my uncle has a z32 tt and he removed the front screen on the mafs for some odd reason and the car ran like **** when he tried laying in the throttle. then he put the screen back on without any changes and it ran fine.
I think he was trying to free up some avalible restrictions in the air flow path by removing those.
* i belive that he has removed the rear screen for "better flow" or it was bent or something weird and the car still ran ok, it was when he removed the front screen that it started acting up and didnt want to run right.
Back to what WD was saying about the screen over the kitchen sink. with the screen on there, you can feel the air bubble seperation on your fingers. without the screen the water flows around your finger and you dont feel much of a texture change. you can add water flow or reduce it and not feel too much of a difference in the smooth flow.
having the screen on there, disrupting the airflow helps cool off the hotwire in the mafs, maybe this is nessacary with the design from nissan?
