I was speaking to my buddy and he told me that a MAF is too restrictive and he would replace it..not with another MAF but something less restrictive...what would he be talking about????

he mean converting a maf car to being one that doesn't use one at all. don't listen to your buddy there. the most efficient reading of air flow is done with a maf. so this mean when adjusting fuel with air, it would be within the most accurate ratio oppose to a car that doesn't run a maf. yes it's restrictive, but this system of monitoring air flow is used in almost every fast car you can think of.

The MAFS can also cause a lot of trouble if it's malfunctioning. Bad signals from a MAFS can cause an engine to run really bad. That's why some high end tuners convert to D Jetronic which uses a Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) system which eliminates the MAFS altogether. With this setup you can run an atmospheric BOV. This is for really high 500+ hp applications. It is much more expensive, but computers like the Power FC D Jetro and the HKS FCON VPRO (the absolute top of the line) eliminate the MAFS

He probably meant switching to a speed density or MAP sensor. Rather than reading airflow it reads manifold pressure. Much better IMO but you can't just switch over to it.

Those computers are FAR from top of the line.
