I cannot work out how an MAF sensors can be "OEM quality" and cost between $25 and $190 ???
Obviously I reckon I'd NOT go with a $25 part, but the more I look, I see $50, $80, $100, etc. The dealer OEM part is over $200, so even allowing for the obligitory dealer mark-up, how can there be such a bloody huge range in price?
Wll the $50 MAF perform ike the $200 MAF? Is it best to replace with an Infiniti MAF and if not, how cheap can one go and still expect a qaulity MAF?
Any advise is appreciated.

I was always told by Infiniti and independent mechanics not to go cheap on the sensors and go with OEM only as they will last and save you labor, time and money in the long run.

No personal experience, not yet

If it's deep in the engine, I go with OEM. If it's easily serviceable I give priority to the warranty offered. Of course this depends on what else could be affected down the line if you get an inferior quality part, example a cheap IACV that could kill an ECU

Consider yourself lucky. The MAF for my 1995 Hardbody KA24 just cost me $350.

First get rid of the cheapest and second cheapest. After that do research and go manufacturer reputation instead of price. After that's said...I don't know what an MAF is, but that's how id go about buying a part I'm not sure about unless someone could recommend a specific one. Good luck.

So glad you said that! I, also had no earthly clue what MAF meant either until I asked in here. It's the Mass Air Flow sensor - the little gizmo that sits on the intake tube near the throttle body. I have no issue with mine but it's 8 years old and I want to replace it now along with some other things that are easy to get to like belts, hoses, etc. I have no problem with using OEM Infiniti parts where its needed, but the wide range of prices for other brands did my head in and I was wondering why.

Hey Larz,

If you need to change out the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF), you can go to Infiniti Parts USA...they sell OEM parts at competitive prices...here's the link to the MAF (item 14) just under $200. Or any reputable company will suffice...

http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/2007-In ... earching=Y

Or you can just maintain your current MAF by unscrewing two small screws at the MAF housing, and using MAF cleaner (I clean mine every 2 - 3 weeks)... very easy to do....

You said there is nothing currently wrong with your maf. Why replace it. Especially with an non oem part.

It's like going to the dentist and asking all your teeth be pulled out just to get dentures. When there's nothing wrong with your current teeth.

Fair point, Frog. I see your point, but I was thinking this way: We don't wait till the hoses or belts break to change them out, we change them in advance of them blowing. I have no clue how long an MAF is expected to last but I know mine is 7 years old and has 90k miles on it. Seems high so I decided to consider changing it out now. I'm having the plugs replaced too, for the same reason.

BTW, I still have my OEM teeth - minus one that has a small white filling on top, LOL

There's no point in changing if you're not having a problems with it. Just take it out and clean it using MAF/air intake cleaner from your local autoparts store. Depending on the type, they can be easily damaged so be careful!

Yes the maf doesn't start to fail like belts and plugs. It either works or doesn't.
Great news on your teeth. I am pretty sure the plugs in our cars are good for 100k so at 90k now would be a good time. Anyone care to chime in. I think the belts are good for 100k as well. ??

I just got my 60K services and belts were include, plugs are done at the 105K service. I ordered the NGK Iridium under $40 and paid $50 to have them put in. Dealer asking $200, save over $100!

Thank you all again for the advise and opinions. Great to have you lot to bounce ideas. I'm not gonna mess with the MAF aside from cleaning it and just do the plugs and belts for now.

MAF SHMAF! Never had a crap quality maf, they are pretty much all made by the same manufacturer... Even the upgraded ones are just tweaked oems... Hop on my350z and grab a used one. Or hop on ebay and grab one for a G35, 350z, or M... Any VQ35DE will work... MAF is easy peasy...

Uhmm not sure if I'm buying 100k on those plugs I had a miss fire going on and I replaced all six ignition coils and plugs. My mechanic said the plugs were in bad shape car has 74K I only run 93 octane and sits all winter

And about the MAF doesn't the idle need to be reprogramed after that's changed?

It is a good idea to, but unneccssary as your maf should be plug and play, disconnecting the throttle body requires a reset... You can do the Idle reset yourself... there is a guide somewhere around here... it is button press, gas press, sequence to reset.
