So glad you said that! I, also had no earthly clue what MAF meant either until I asked in here. It's the Mass Air Flow sensor - the little gizmo that sits on the intake tube near the throttle body. I have no issue with mine but it's 8 years old and I want to replace it now along with some other things that are easy to get to like belts, hoses, etc. I have no problem with using OEM Infiniti parts where its needed, but the wide range of prices for other brands did my head in and I was wondering why.TDot wrote:First get rid of the cheapest and second cheapest. After that do research and go manufacturer reputation instead of price. After that's said...I don't know what an MAF is, but that's how id go about buying a part I'm not sure about unless someone could recommend a specific one. Good luck.
Thanks for the links, CPJ !CPJ LB wrote:Hey Larz,
If you need to change out the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF), you can go to Infiniti Parts USA...they sell OEM parts at competitive prices...here's the link to the MAF (item 14) just under $200. Or any reputable company will suffice...

Or you can just maintain your current MAF by unscrewing two small screws at the MAF housing, and using MAF cleaner (I clean mine every 2 - 3 weeks)... very easy to do....

There's no point in changing if you're not having a problems with it. Just take it out and clean it using MAF/air intake cleaner from your local autoparts store. Depending on the type, they can be easily damaged so be careful!Larz wrote: So glad you said that! I, also had no earthly clue what MAF meant either until I asked in here. I just got my 60K services and belts were include, plugs are done at the 105K service. I ordered the NGK Iridium under $40 and paid $50 to have them put in. Dealer asking $200, save over $100!Frog wrote:Yes the maf doesn't start to fail like belts and plugs. It either works or doesn't.
Great news on your teeth. I am pretty sure the plugs in our cars are good for 100k so at 90k now would be a good time. Anyone care to chime in. I think the belts are good for 100k as well. ??

And about the MAF doesn't the idle need to be reprogramed after that's changed?
